THE POWER OF THE PELVIS
The pelvic floor (also known as the pelvic diaphragm) supports the lower abdominal organs, controls elimination, is an important basis for personal power in Eastern philosophies, and is the source of sexual sensation. When it is weak, we are prone to uterine prolapse and leaky urine, and can not engage life with full vitality. We will learn exercises from the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education which will increase sensation and strength. These exercises go beyond Kegels in their depth and ability to create change. Bring a pad to lie on the floor.
BONES FOR LIFE
This system is an offshoot of the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education. We will practice movement explorations that support posture and alignment. This works not by following usual postural rules, but by sensory-motor experiences that make standing and walking more comfortable and alive. These processes stimulate the spine in a way that may decrease the chances of osteoporosis.
Both classes require floor (or ground, but floor preferred) space for everyone to lie down, and a quiet atmosphere. In Bones for Life, we will do exercises that require the hands or feet to touch the wall, so we also need wall space, indoors or on the porch.
Ann Harman is an osteopathic physician, Guild Certified Practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education, student teacher of Bones for Life, Certified Hypnotherapist, and Licensed Massage Therapist.
