One of my sweetest and quirkiest cats is Tucky. She arrived at Moonhaven by virtue of being dumped in the front yard and wisely crawled in and under a bush. I was waiting for a very late friend that morning as we were going to go to a Rock and Gem show.
My aggravation was building as I waited for her so I decided to raise up my vibration and attitude by watering the plants in the front yard. As I stood there, I could hear the faint mewing from under a bush in the distance. My Bear dog went running in the direction of the sounds. I had feared that one of my cats had been hit on the road but when we got to the source of the mewing, there sat the tiniest little gray tabby kitten.
Bear as always gently licked the baby and I scooped her up in delight. Ahhhhhh a new baby! Problem was, I knew that I needed to go soon but my partner Tara would be home all day so I needed to figure out a way to sell her on the idea of the new kitten.
Little kitties are pretty irresistible anyway and after all, what was one more. Tara snuggled her too as I made a case for the new little one. We already had Merlin, Tara [the cat],Jasmine, and Itchie in the feline wing of the family. Being a wise woman, I suggested that we call the kitten Tucky, which was Tara’s childhood name and I struck gold. That was it, and Tucky was in like Flynn.
Tara always said that it did her heart good to hear the name Tucky being spoken so lovingly as she did not hear it that way in her childhood.
Jasmine who was only a year old was not thrilled by the new female but made room for her nevertheless.
For Tucky’s first several months, she cuddled up and slept on my chest which I adored. She was just the sweetest little girl and learned to love the 4 dogs as well. She and Bear forged a deep bond which came in very handy when Tuck had her one and only litter of kittens.
I’m all about zero population with animals but this little hussy got pregnant before she was even 6 months old. For the longest time, I had no idea that she was in a family way because she was such a small cat but before too long, her swollen breasts gave her away. An almost spirit-like white cat started appearing in the yard at this time and we surmised that he must have been the father, however he disappeared just as mysteriously as he appeared.
I had some friends who wanted kittens and I didn’t have the heart to terminate them at this late stage so I made ready for new babies. Shortly before Tucky went into labor, the large white mystery cat reappeared until right after the birth and disappeared again never to be seen at Moonhaven again.
I had been concerned over Tucky’s welfare for this delivery because she was so little and consulted my African Priestess friend,Omi, who is an excellent medium. She made some suggestions regarding prayers and blessings for the new kitties and we followed them to the letter. We were told that the first ones would be like love charms for our relationship and to keep them both.
The delivery was quite an amazing occurrence. Early in the day an old friend who was actually a midwife came over and Tucky kept almost going into full labor and would stop. Clearly, she was waiting for her other Mom to come home so we could all do this together, and so it was. Late that evening, Tucky gave birth to 5 beautiful kittens.
My mentor Kay informed me that all of the cats and kittens present on that magical night were reincarnations of Suzie Creamcheeses family that had been murdered while I was in college. Then I kept 3 of the kittens as well and I could certainly see the similarities between Suzie,Lather, and Ass Backwards with Tucky,Crystal and Jade. That knowledge really soothed my soul because that early loss cut so deep that I couldn’t even feel it completely for some years.
Tucky’s was the dream delivery for a holistic animal healer such as myself. I had made some raspberry leaf tea to help keep the contractions coming and had Arbor Garden flower essence for soothing Tucky and relaxing her body. I would deliver one of the two remedies to Tuck by dropper and Tara would massage her in between contractions and one by one all 5 came out happy and healthy. First was a white kitten who became
Crystal Cat followed shortly by his twin Jade, next a black kitten named Zoey, and a pair of gray tabby kittens, Lionheart and Isis, that looked just like their Mom. The 5 little ones snuggled up with their Mom with Tara, Bear, and I looking on and all was well that night.
Tucky was an exceptionally good Mom totally devoted to her new furry bundles of love yet willing to take a break for herself and let Bear or me sit in as a CO-Mom.
Truly she had such a great sense of balancing the needs of the kittens with her own.
Two friends took two of the kittens when they were weaned and we wound up keeping Crystal, Jade and Lionheart.
If you are ever depressed and can;t shake it, get yourself a kitten or two for hours of viewing pleasure. We now had 5 cats and 3 kittens as well as 4 dogs, quite the furry family.
Crystal turned out to be deaf and was always into something while Jade was the princess. Lionheart was the largest of the group and was clearly a warrior yet all of them were larger than their Mom Tucky. I will tell you more about them in their ownchapter.
Sadly Tucky is the only one of her family still alive.
One of the funniest things about Tuck is that she tends to adopt a room in the house and then that’s it for several years at least. She started living with me in the bedroom and then after some months, moved into my office where she held court with all who came for readings. She is one of the sweetest cats you will ever know and loves to snuggle people I fed her on my desk and she wandered around the bend to the bathroom for her litter box and that was it for at least 7 years. She was The Office Cat and took her job very seriously.
I thought that she would do this gig for life but suddenly without any apparent reason, she moved back to my bedroom and made her life there rarely venturing out at all. Perhaps after working the office shift all those years, she decided retirement in the bedroom was necessary. I must say that made me wonder as well about my own need for a vacation.
Around this time, Tucky because very ill with kidney failure and I almost lost her. Even the alternative vet told me to say goodbye but with the help of some kind women who helped me give her IV fluids each day and the use of homeopathy, flower essences and healing touch I brought my little Tuck through this crisis. I believe that she was allergic to Kelp and that it had messed up her thyroid which created the kidney trouble.
Tucky probably lasted in the bedroom for about another 7 years sharing the space for her last year there with Star my youngest cat who she affectionately and secretly referred to as “the white thing.”
After my dog Apple passed, I redid the living room and Tucky moved into this space which was new and different for her. Now she was Queen of her own domain luxuriating on a new bright red couch. Again I moved her litter box to a hidden spot for her and feed her on her special place. She actually goes outside for 1/2 the day to while away the hours under her favorite Sago palm.
Tucky tends to be on the shy side outside and is more of a hider but once indoors in her Queendom she reigns supreme on her red throne inviting all who pass by to come in for a pet and a purr.
